How to Measure Band Saw Blade Length

How to measure band saw blade length

Getting the right band saw blade length is the first step to a clean fit and safe cuts. Whether you are replacing a worn blade or stocking a new saw, DEKOLY makes it straightforward: confirm length, then shop the matching collection.

1. Read the Length Stamped on the Old Blade

Most industrial and shop blades carry the length printed or etched near the weld or on the packaging. Look for markings such as 72-1/2", 93-1/2", or 64-1/2". If the stamp is still readable, use that number—no guesswork required.

Tip: wipe oil and chips from the etched area before you read it. A flashlight helps on dark bi-metal blades.

2. Check Your Saw’s Blade Chart

Your machine manual or the chart on the saw frame usually lists the approved blade length. Match that figure exactly. Using a blade that is too short or too long can stress the tension system, slip off wheels, or leave you unable to tension properly.

If you run more than one saw, keep a short note of each machine’s length so reordering is fast.

3. Measure Around the Wheels (When Needed)

When the old blade is gone and the chart is missing, you can measure the path the blade travels. At a high level:

  • Release tension and set the upper wheel (if adjustable) to a mid or known position.
  • Run a flexible measuring tape or a non-stretch cord around both wheels, following the blade path over the tires.
  • Mark the loop, straighten it, and measure the length. Round to the nearest standard size your saw accepts.

This method is a backup, not a substitute for the stamped length or OEM chart when those are available. Always confirm against your saw’s stated length before cutting metal or wood at production speeds.

Shop DEKOLY by Length

Once you know the length, go straight to the matching collection. Popular industrial sizes:

Browse all sizes on our homepage shop by length, or jump from any length collection to filter by TPI and material after you lock in length.

Length First, Then TPI and Width

Length gets the blade on the saw. Tooth pitch (TPI) and blade width decide cut quality and feed rate. For metal, start with length, then pick TPI for solid bar, tube, or sheet. DEKOLY organizes collections so you can move from length to application without hunting through unrelated SKUs.

Need Help?

If you are unsure which length fits your machine, contact DEKOLY with the saw model and any stamped numbers from the old blade. Review shipping for delivery timelines before you place a multi-blade order for the shop floor.

Measure once, order the right length, and keep production moving.
